Experiment 9
Another cheat sheet courtesy of Dr. Leytner. This will help you with the calculations for parts 3 and 4 of the experiment. The important thing to realize here is that there is no weak acid dissociation to speak of in the buffer solution. You will start with a certain amount of acetic acid and a certain amount of acetate, and you'll mix the two of them. The new concentrations of acetic acid and acetate are calculated just by solving the dilution problem. There is no additional weak acid dissociation to worry about because LeChatlier's Principle inhibits both the forward and reverse reactions. So where the cheat sheet says to determine the concentration in the new volume, it's just a dilution problem, not a weak acid Ka problem.
Experiment 8
This hint sheet will help you with the post-lab questions. If you're stuck on the lab write-up, print this off and do the post-lab questions first, and then go back to the report and it will probably make a lot more sense.
Experiment 7
Another cheat sheet, courtesy of Dr. Leytner, to help keep you on track through the calculations for Experiment 7.
Experiment 4
This cheat sheet (pdf) from Dr. Leytner to help you with the calculations for Experiment 4.
CH204 Grade Calculator (Excel spreadsheet):
Click here to open an Excel spreadsheet that you can use to calculate your ongoing grade in CH 204. To save the spreadsheet on your own computer, choose Save As from the File menu. I apologize for my distasteful choice of colors in the various columns, and I encourage you to change them to something less offensive in your own copy of the spreadsheet. You can change cell colors by highlighting the cells and then clicking on the little paint can in the upper right corner.
